Founded in 2014 by Nigel Hutchinson and Stuart Carpenter, Ingenious was established with the aim of creating a flexible manufacturing business that works in close partnership with customers and supply chain partners alike. Since its inception, the company has remained committed to designing and developing high-performance hardware solutions that meet the latest industry standards while addressing the evolving commercial and technical needs of the market.
With an experienced UK-based design team, Ingenious develops its products in-house, placing innovation at the heart of the design process. Ingenious offers a wide range of SBD-accredited products across door hardware, locks and mail delivery solutions. These include its Professional and Duplex multipoint locking ranges, high security composite and patio door locks, the Apex 3* Cylinder and the TS008 Letterplate Range, all designed to provide robust security performance for residential applications.
Operating from its UK distribution centre in Bolton, Manchester, Ingenious supports customers throughout the UK, Ireland, mainland Europe and the United States. The company’s partnership-led approach is underpinned by dedicated account management, ongoing stock analysis and a strong focus on delivering exceptional service standards.
Quality assurance remains central to Ingenious’ range. All products undergo rigorous testing to the latest industry standards, supported by an ongoing programme of perpetual testing, supply chain audits and final inspection checks prior to distribution.

Secured by Design
Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.
SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification – a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
